Gibberellic acid (also known as Gibberellin A3, GA, GA3) is a carboxylic acid and hormone found in plants. Its general chemical formula is C19H22O6. When purified, it is a white or pale yellow crystalline powder, soluble in ethanol and slightly soluble in water. Gibberellic acid is a single gibberellin that promotes cell growth and elongation.

It affects plant decomposition and aids plant growth if used in small doses, but eventually plants show more and more tolerance to it. Gibberellic acid stimulates the cells of germinating seeds to produce mRNA molecules that encode hydrolytic enzymes.

Gibberellic acid is a very potent hormone whose natural existence in plants controls their growth. Because GAs regulate plant growth, applications at very low concentrations can have far-reaching effects while too much can have the opposite effect.
