PREMIUM CALCIUM NITRATE (CA(NO3)2) FERTILIZER
Description
Most of the world's calcium nitrate is produced in Porsgunn, Norway. There are several methods of production: by adding limestone to nitric acid and neutralizing it with ammonia gas; or by reacting an aqueous solution of ammonium nitrate with calcium hydroxide; or as an intermediate product of the Oda process (nitrophosphate process) invented by Erling Johnson in the municipality of Oda, Norway. Like other alkaline earth metals, Ca(NO3)2 decomposes at 500oC to nitrous oxide.

Main applications of Calcium nitrate
In fertilizer materials:
– As a raw material to provide Ca and N that are easily absorbed by plants. Ca is a very necessary nutrient for plants, not a structural element but a component of some enzymes or stimulates the activity of enzymes: lipase, esterase, cholinesterase, arginase, dehydrogenase related to the metabolic process in plants. Ca has the effect of adjusting the acidity of the cell fluid. Ca has an antagonistic effect with other mineral elements such as K, Na, Mg to create a balance between the elements.
– Ca affects the formation of roots and shoots, affects the absorption of nutrients, water absorption and the creation of new biomass.
– Increases soil pH, inhibits the growth of soil-borne fungi (fungi that cause root rot, cabbage swelling, rapid death of pepper, tomato wilting, cracked stems and sap from citrus trees, durian, etc.)
– Soil improvement: Reduces acidity, desalination, prevents soil degradation, restores soil structure, makes soil airy, permeable to water, reduces iron (Fe), aluminum (Al) and manganese (Mn) poisoning
Other applications of Calcium nitrate:
– In wastewater treatment: reduces the odor of water. With the presence of nitrate, the sulfate synthesis process stops, thereby preventing the formation of H2S (Hydrogen sulfide) – a substance with a very toxic rotten egg smell.
– In construction: making concrete mixtures, based on two mechanisms: Ca ions accelerate the formation of Calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) to create blocks; N ions help form Iron hydroxide as a protective layer, preventing corrosion of concrete reinforcement
– In rubber production: latex coagulant
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
